The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is the gateway for MBBS and BDS professional degrees in India. In 2022, more than 1.8 million students appeared for this test. With less than 92,000 MBBS seats all over India, NEET is one of the most competitive exams in the world having a 0.05% selection rate.

Every NEET success story is commendable, but here are a few people whose stories I find particularly inspiring.

  1. Alpana Kumari, AIIMS New Delhi.

Alpana was a 5th year NEET repeater who scored a whopping 691 marks and secured an AIR of 216 in NEET 2020. She is now a 2nd year student at the most prestigious medical college in India.

2. Aakriti Goel (NEETShots_with_AakritiGoel), NDMC Medical College New Delhi.

She graduated as an engineer from BITS Pilani in 2015. After working for multiple startups, in 2020 Aakriti fell sick due to severe hormonal imbalance and took a sabbatical of 3 months from her work. During that time she realized that she did not want to go back to the job and that her passion lied elsewhere. She cracked NEET 2021, 10 years after her class 12th with only 12 months of preparation and secured AIR 1118 with 676 marks.

3. Ankit Kumar (https://youtu.be/nAIjlxjQVzc), AIIMS New Delhi.

Having passed his class 12th in 2014, he joined a B.Sc Biology course as he had no idea about medical entrances. After completing his graduation, he then joined a local coaching institute to prepare for NEET. In NEET 2018 he scored 491 marks. Not being able secure a seat in government MBBS college, Ankit decided to go for another drop and scored 610 marks in NEET 2019. Then in AIIMS 2019 entrance he got all India OBC rank 3 which landed him in AIIMS New Delhi.

4. Vikas Dubey (विकास दुबे), GMC Ambikapur.

He worked as a drug inspector for 7 years before preparing for and cracking NEET in less than a year. He scored 570 marks in NEET 2021 and is attending medical college at 39 years of age.

5. Payel, RG Kar Medical College Kolkata.

After 3 years, Payal secured a seat in one of the top 3 medical colleges in West Bengal with her 4th attempt in NEET. She prepared for NEET while simultaneously pursuing her BDS course, which she joined in 2019. She secured AIR 11444 in NEET 2021.

6. Sakshi Srivastava, ASMC Shahjahanpur.

Sakshi scored 275 marks in NEET 2018, which she appeared along with her class 12th. She took a drop and scored 422 marks in NEET 2019. Unable to secure a government MBBS seat, she joined a B.Sc(H) Biomedical Sciences course due to societal pressure. She kept preparing for NEET alongside her B.Sc course, and scored a whopping 501 marks in NEET 2020 and finally 612 marks in NEET 2021 which landed her in a medical college.

7. Vikas Chauhan, AIIMS Raebareli.

After 4 drop years, Vikas secured a seat at AIIMS Raebereli in 2021 with a NEET AIR 3612. He increased his NEET score by more than 200 marks, from 421 in NEET 2018 to 652 in NEET 2021.

8. Vivek D Kumar, VMMC New Delhi.

He passed his higher secondary in 2017. With 231 marks in NEET 2017 and 381 marks in NEET 2018, he couldn’t secure a seat in government MBBS college. Vivek scored 546 marks in NEET 2019 and joined BAMS course in A&U Tibbia College. He kept preparing for NEET alongside his BAMS course, a feat which is impossible for many people. Vivek scored 591 marks in NEET 2020 but the cutoff skyrocketed. In NEET 2021, he finally secured a seat in VMMC, one of the best colleges in India, with a score of 640 and AIR 6015.

9. There’s also the ex-banker who cracked NEET 2020 and joined MBBS course after his retirement: 64-year-old Odisha man set to join MBBS after clearing NEET.

Times of India

10. And this father-daughter duo all set to join MBBS after cracking NEET 2021 together: Father-daughter duo clear NEET 2021, take admission in MBBS course together.
